Data & Methodology
Exactly where every number in Rankazo comes from — what's real, unmodified Etsy data, and what we compute as an estimate.
Rankazo uses only the official Etsy Open API v3 — no scraping, no unofficial endpoints, no third-party data resellers. An earlier version of one of our tools did rely on scraping; it was removed entirely in favor of the official API. Some fields are shown exactly as Etsy returns them; other figures are estimates we derive from that data — and we always label them as such.
Straight from the Etsy API
These fields are returned by the official API and shown unmodified.

Everything below is calculated from the real Etsy fields above — no invented coefficients, no modeled curves pulled from nowhere. Every figure here is an estimate, not a measurement, and it says so wherever it appears in the app.
Demand Score (0–100)
Combines two real per-listing measurements — average daily views and average daily favorites, each log-scaled — across a real sample of listings ranking for that keyword, into one normalized score. Always labeled an estimate; never presented as an Etsy figure.
Keyword Difficulty (KD, 0–100)
Blends the real total of competing listings with how much more (or less) newer listings are breaking in than that competition count alone would predict — a crowded term dominated by long-established listings scores harder than an equally crowded one where recent listings are still gaining traction.
Opportunity Score
One combined score weighing Demand Score against Keyword Difficulty (weighted toward demand), so "low competition" alone never reads as an opportunity — a keyword nobody's searching for isn't one.
Competition: Low / Medium / High
A plain band over the real, live count of competing listings for that exact search — nothing modeled.
Listing Grade (A–F)
A fully deterministic rubric — no AI — scored across title, tags, photos & video, description, price, and freshness, each using only real Etsy fields for that listing. A component with too little real data to judge honestly (e.g. too few comparable prices) is dropped from the score entirely rather than guessed at.
Shop Audit score (0–100)
Listing Optimization (0–40) is a deterministic average of that shop's own real Listing Grades. Trust, Catalog, and Policy are AI-evaluated from real shop facts — age, reviews, pricing spread, and the shop's actual policy text — instructed to report only genuine issues, never invented ones.
Competitor Shop Analyser's estimated revenue
Etsy's real lifetime-sales count for that shop, multiplied by the median price across its real active listings. Labeled an estimate throughout — it can't account for price changes, discounts, or shipping across the shop's history, and Etsy doesn't publish real per-sale prices for shops you don't own.
AI Review Insights
Claude reads a shop's own real, verbatim review text and summarizes recurring praise and complaints. It's instructed to never invent a compliment or complaint that isn't genuinely present, and needs at least 3 real reviews before it will attempt this at all.
What we deliberately don't show
Etsy publishes no search volume, no click data, and no history. Rather than estimate those into existence, Rankazo leaves them out and says why. A missing number is honest; a plausible one that happens to be wrong is the kind that costs you money.
Etsy search volume
The Etsy API exposes no search-volume data of any kind, for any keyword. Rankazo shows Demand Score instead — always labeled as Rankazo's own estimate, never presented as a measured search number.
Clicks & click-through rate
Etsy publishes no click data for listings you don't own. Any CTR figure would be a guess, so there isn't one.
Search seasonality / trend history
Etsy's API returns the current state of a listing or shop, never its past — there's no historical endpoint. Rankazo doesn't reconstruct a trend chart from that. Where a real time series genuinely exists — your own shop's payment ledger, in Shop Analytics — it's shown as-is; everywhere else, only a real, live snapshot is offered.
Per-listing sales
Etsy's listings endpoint returns quantity (current stock on hand), never units sold. Real sales counts are published only per shop, as a lifetime total — they can never be attributed to one keyword or listing. That's why Competitor Shop Analyser's revenue estimate uses the shop-level figure, not a per-listing one.
Buyer geography, traffic & visit sources for shops you don't own
Etsy shares this only with a shop's own owner, for their own orders. There's no public equivalent for a competitor's shop, so Rankazo doesn't show one.
Freshness & caching
- Every call goes to Etsy's official openapi.etsy.com endpoints, throttled to at most 4 requests per second — under Etsy's own published cap — and Rankazo backs off automatically using Etsy's own retry-after header if asked to slow down.
- Listing Grades (AI Listing Helper, Competitor Listing Analyser) are recomputed live from Etsy every single time, with no caching — since showing whether a change actually helped is the whole point.
- Shop Analytics caches your revenue and fees for up to one hour per shop before re-fetching your real payment ledger.
- Shop Audit caches until you hit Refresh, or until you reoptimize a listing — which invalidates it automatically so it never shows a stale, pre-optimization score.
- A keyword is scored live from Etsy the first time anyone looks it up. The Demand Score and Keyword Difficulty formulas can improve later without needing to re-fetch Etsy, since they're recomputed from the same stored real inputs every time they're read.
